Niška Banja in a nutshell
Niška Banja is a spa town in southeastern Serbia, at the foot of Koritnik, a spur of Suva Planina. According to the Serbian spa association it lies about 10 km from Niš, at an altitude of 248 m. The town is home to the Institute for Treatment and Rehabilitation Niška Banja (Srpskih junaka 2), which the national tourism database lists as a spa treatment facility. A walk through the town and the park needs no preparation. For treatment, clarify access with the institute and get medical advice first.
This guide covers the spa and everything you can easily reach from it: Niš Fortress, the Skull Tower (Ćele Kula), Mediana, the Red Cross camp, the Sićevo and Jelašnica gorges, Suva Planina and Sokobanja. It is an independent site, not run by the institute, the Niš tourist organization, the city or any tour company. Prices are in Serbian dinars (RSD), as listed in 2026, and they change.

Pay in dinars
The official currency of Serbia is the dinar (RSD). The euro is not an official means of payment, so do not count on it being accepted everywhere. Prices in this guide are in dinars with a rough euro value.
Museum sites close on Mondays
The Skull Tower, Mediana and the Red Cross camp are closed on Mondays, and their hours differ. The Skull Tower stays open until 7 p.m. on weekdays, Mediana and the camp close at 4 p.m.
Skull Tower →The fire on Suva Planina
On 14 October 2026 the government reported that the fire that began on 4 September was extinguished (the headline says Stara Planina, the text says Suva Planina). That does not mean every trail is open and safe. Check the situation before you set out.
Suva Planina →City buses are free
Since 1 July 2025 public transport in Niš has been free for all passengers, including the airport buses 34A and 34B. Old fare lists no longer apply. Check whether this also covers the line to Niška Banja before you travel.
Getting there →The institute's pools are not a public bath
A medical pool does not mean day entry for everyone. Access to treatment and pools is arranged with the institute, and you should talk to your doctor first.
The institute →Niška Banja: frequently asked questions
Where is Niška Banja and how do I get there?
The spa town lies about 10 km from Niš, at the foot of Koritnik. You reach Niš by plane through Konstantin the Great Airport or by road. The city timetable portal lists line 1 (MIN-ovo naselje I to Niška Banja), but check the departure and travel time before you go. More on the getting there page.
Can I just turn up for a swim or a bath?
Do not count on it. The Institute for Treatment and Rehabilitation is a medical facility, and a medical pool does not mean public day entry. For treatment, talk to your doctor and arrange access with the institute. See the institute and the waters.
How much do the Skull Tower and Mediana cost?
On the 2026 museum price list the Skull Tower costs RSD 300 (about €2.50), or RSD 250 (about €2) with a reduction. Mediana costs RSD 500 (about €4), or RSD 400 (about €3.50). Children up to 7 do not pay. Details on the Skull Tower and Mediana pages.

In January the mean high is 5.0 °C and the mean low −2.2 °C. This is not a forecast, only a guide for choosing a period.
Do I need a visa or a registration?
German citizens can enter with a passport or a regular ID card (not a provisional one) and stay visa-free for up to 90 days within 180 days. Check the rules for your own nationality. Hotels and private hosts must report a foreign guest within 24 hours of arrival.
